What should I expect on my first appointment?

We would ask that you arrive 15 minutes early to complete a Health History Form.  The information you provide on this form is treated as strictly confidential and is used, along with intake and assessment, to develop a safe and effective treatment plan.  Intake is mainly questions which arise from your Health History Form and from your current condition.  Assessment is via testing such as muscle length, orthopedic and/or range of motion.  Testing will only be performed with your informed consent.  Based on all of the information gathered, a treatment plan will be suggested and if you are in agreement, we will proceed.

Who can benefit from Massage?

Many people think of massage purely in the context of relaxation.  While there is no denying that it is one of the best ways to relax, it can do so much more!  Massage Therapy is beneficial for people of all ages.  Some, but not all, of the conditions effectively treated by Massage Therapy are:

  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Low Back Pain
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Muscle Strain and Tension
  • Repetitive Strain Injury
  • Tendonitis
  • Stress 
  • TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction)

Depending on your goals for the session, whether it be stress reduction or more of a treatment focus,   we use traditional Swedish massage techniques as well as deep tissue massage, myofascial release and trigger point therapy.

Will my privacy be maintained?

Yes, always.  It is very important to us that you feel comfortable at all times.  We are trained in professional draping techniques to ensure your privacy.  Robes and wraps are provided for treatments that require them and your therapist leaves the room while you’re undressing and redressing.


What do I wear?

Whatever you will be most comfortable wearing.  Generally, most people leave their underpants on.  When you are on the massage table, you will always be covered by a sheet and blanket except for the area that is being worked on. 

Do I have to talk during the treatment?

We will follow your lead.  If you would like to rest and relax, we are happy to oblige.  If you have questions about your service and would like to learn more about it, we’re happy to provide you with answers and information.

Will my Massage Therapy treatment hurt?

It depends on the type of massage and type of conditions being addressed.  A general Swedish massage should not hurt.    If the treatment goal is to address muscle tension which may be present in the deeper layers of muscle fibre, Deep Tissue Massage is indicated and you may experience some discomfort.  But  we will always work within your comfort level and will be monitoring both verbal and nonverbal signs of tenderness and pain.  To limit your discomfort both during and post treatment, the tissue is warmed and worked prior to the gradual application of deeper pressure.  Ultimately, this treatment is for and about you and you are empowered to modify or change it at any time.  Your comfort is our first goal.

How can I best enhance Massage Therapy post treatment?

Great question.  Drink lots of water and have an Epsom Salt Bath each of which will aid your body in the elimination of toxins.  After Deep Tissue work, apply ice to the affected area and leave on until the area has gone through the cold, burning, aching and finally numb stages of cryotherapy.  A towel layer should always be placed between the ice pack and the skin.  As well, follow any self care protocol that we may have advised.

Is treatment covered under health coverage?

Massage Therapy is a beneficial and effective form of treatment therefore it is covered under most extended health care plans. Because some plans require a physicians referral or other criteria, it is best to consult your individual plan for details.

We offer online billing for Medavie Blue Cross, Chamber of Commerce, Cowan, Desjardins, Great West Life, Johnson, Standard Life, Sun Life, Manulife, Maximum Benefit or Johnston Group, and Industrial Alliance.
